About Us

Salem Distributing Company is a 100% employee-owned international company with a support staff of 50 employee-owners in the Winston-Salem, North Carolina corporate headquarters. In addition, sales representatives and support staff are strategically located throughout the United States and Canada with warehouses maintained in Winston-Salem, NC, Los Angeles, CA and Toronto, Canada.

We serve four distinct, but complementary industries: Glass, Stone, Precision Electro-Optical, and Ophthalmic. We have found that these different industries share the common theme of producing a specified surface condition. From brilliant beveled mirrors to the critical surface preparation of precision optics, Salem is capable of supplying the materials and technical expertise these processes demand.  This complex relationship of industries, materials, and applications has served to build a vast wealth of product and process knowledge unique to a single company.

Salem continues to set the standard by meeting the industries’ demands for cost-effective, high-quality, innovative machinery and supplies. But that’s just the beginning. Our expertise and service are what our customers have come to value. We evaluate our success on your success.

Salem's Core Focus: Enriching the quality of our Owner’s lives by helping our customers succeed through delivering world class glass fabricating machines, supplies and service.

Salem's Core Values:

  • Customer Focused
  • Accountable
  • Do the Right Thing
  • Hungry for Achievement

What ESOP Means To Salem

Jennifer Weitzel

"Employee ownership to me means teamwork, accountability, and personal responsibility. Being part of an employee owned company means I have a real stake in the success or failure of the company. It motivates me to do my best work and look for ways to improve the work I do – efficiently and monetarily. Employee ownership has made me think of my job differently and more positively than I ever have in my past positions."

"Employee ownership means that the company works with a more tangible goal than investors or a single family. We are supporting each other towards a better future. What we do in the day to day is shared amongst each other. The success of the company is much more personal and close because we, as a team, are as well."

Rusty Niles

"Being an ESOP employee means to me that I’m part of something bigger and better than just being an employee. The biggest thing is that I’m not just a number on the payroll or an expense. It means that my time and voice do matter in what happens to the company in whole. Instead of putting in my 8 hours and go home I can put in my time and make a difference because what I do today will make an impact on my future for retirement. It lets you take a lot more pride in yourself and the company you work for knowing that you do make a difference not just for you but also your fellow employees that will one day retire with you."
