January 19, 2017 - SALEM Flat Glass & Mirror will once again present at Glass Processing Automation Days (GPAD) in 2017. GPAD, the glass industry’s most exciting, educational, and informative event, offers a rare opportunity to see first-hand the latest user-friendly, comprehensive software integration systems alongside the most up-to-date and cutting-edge glass processing developments. GPAD is not a trade show but an annual two-day educational experience designed for glass fabrication industry leaders. It provides in-depth insight into the latest advances in glass fabrication equipment and software solutions in an up-close and personal setting unavailable anywhere else on the globe. This unique two-day journey, held in beautiful and historic New Orleans, Louisiana from March 14-15, 2017, promises to inspire both new glass fabricators as well as seasoned veterans of the glass industry.
The Bovone Robotics System (BRS) is the subject of SALEM’s presentation in 2017. The BRS is the answer to the need for more automation to increase production and to reduce labor costs and risks in glass fabrication facilities. This system revolutionizes glass handling with cutting-edge technology. The BRS brings a new level of production capability to the glass industry by providing automatic loading and unloading of vertical glass edgers. This may be done using a single robot in a small footprint, or a high production island may be built using 2 edgers with automatic wheel adjustment and 2 robots. The BRS is available in an array of configurations and can be custom designed to fit most any application to maximize productivity.

Helping Customers Affected by Historic Flooding
August 23, 2016 - Salem Distributing Company, Inc., a 100% employee owned company with headquarters in Winston-Salem, NC, is reaching out to customers in the flood ravaged areas of Louisiana. Through our divisions, SALEM Flat Glass & Mirror and SALEM Stone, sales and service representatives began calling and emailing customers last week to find ways we may help them recover from the devastation that occurred. Whether directly affected or not, our glass and stone fabrication customers face the possibility of long term hardship from downtime or physical loss and SALEM wants to help. From salvaging existing equipment and supplies, or rebuilding shops with quick access to new machines and product, we understand the need to get on with business and make a living.
Our aim is to offset some of the costs experienced as our customers recover and to aid them in taking care of their existing or increased business. SALEM has stepped up and is offering discounts on supply orders as well as free freight in most instances. The assistance will remain in effect through the month of November as we know this recovery will be a lengthy process.
SALEM Flat Glass & Mirror and SALEM Stone also sell an extensive line of new and pre-owned fabrication and new material handling equipment and may be able to help with the rebuild of damaged machines.

SALEM Awards Territory
Salem Distributing Company, Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Serban Cornicioiu to additional territories in the Northeast US. Specifically, Serban will add Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont to his existing territories of New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
In his expanded position as Regional Account Manager, Serban will be responsible for maintaining existing customer relationships and developing new prospects and additional flat glass and stone fabrication supply and machine sales. His territory, now covering the entire Northeast region for SALEM Flat Glass & Mirror and SALEM Stone, will continue to be serviced through our east coast corporate office located in Winston-Salem, NC.
Serban brings numerous years of knowledge and successful sales experience in tooling, supplies, service, and machinery for both the stone and glass industries. We commend Serban’s proven track record for success and are confident in his ability to develop his new territory and deliver formulas for success to his customers. Being based out of New York, NY, Serban’s territory knowledge, drive to succeed, and persistence will serve him and the company very well in this expanded sales role.

News - Virginia Foxx Visits Salem
May 9, 2016 - On her way back to D.C., Congresswoman Virginia Foxx visited with SALEM Distributing Company, Inc. of Winston-Salem, NC. Salem, joined by fellow employee owned company, Computer Credit, Inc. -also of Winston-Salem, discussed the beneficial impact of Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOP) on employees, communities and government.
There is overwhelming evidence that ESOP companies are more productive, profitable and more sustainable. During economic downturn, ESOP companies were four times more likely to retain jobs and during the Great Recession the Federal government recognized substantial savings when compared to foregone tax payments by laid off employees of conventionally owned companies. For every $1 in tax expenditures to promote employee stock ownership, the Federal government collected $13 in taxes! Also, more than half of ESOP companies have two retirements plans and average account balances for these employees are much higher than data reported for average 401(k) accounts.
Asked to consider support for H.R 2096 -Promotion and Expansion of Private Employee Ownership Act of 2015, Congresswoman Foxx shared her enthusiasm to support employee owned companies and revealed a few statistics from her ESOP research as well. She encouraged everyone to stay involved and contact her for a visit to her office in D.C.!
